DC enters its seventh year and Chicago enters its third year as the world famous a cappella festival continues! Each festival will feature Fri, Sat and Sun concerts. And profits continue to support the Alzheimer's Association and local music programs. While Blue Jupiter and the crew of familiars will return, no other artists have been announced just yet. But big things are in the works! Check www.SingStrong.org for details.

Information is posted as it becomes available on SingStrong.org RARB reviews are coming out at a fast furious pace! Catch my thoughts on:
FACE's "I Hear the Bells" Tar Heel Voices' "Keepin It Low Key" Home Free's "Live From the Road" Good stuff! Also RARB is seeking new reviewers, especially women, who have strong opinions about a cappella music. Interested? Contact RARB. Aarhus Vocal Festival (Aarhus, Denmark) invites Jonathan Minkoff, Esq. to lecture on the business aspects of a cappella music. The week-long vocal festival held May 2013 is widely regarded as one of the world's most prestigious, inspiring visitors from across Europe, as well as a growing number of fans from other continents. Jens Johansen (Aarhus University and Kor72), Head of Festival and Chairman of the board founded the festival in May 2006 with performances from his rhythmic choir, Vocal Line as well as from Rajaton and The Real Group. The festival occurs once every two years, and in 2011 featured performances from many artists, including Postyr, Basix and Bobby McFerrin. Once upon a time, only a scant few a cappella groups failed to credit the composers of the songs they covered. That's changed. In 2012, very few college groups credit composers. That's a trend that needs reversing.
My initial response has been to call attention to this and other liner note issues in my RARB reviews. But I wanted to do something more to help these artists before they head to the presses. To that end, I just posted a very detailed article about a cappella liner notes. Any group seeking the best practices will have a free resource that's readily available to them. I also made a plea to all the a cappella producers who frequent a producers forum on facebook, on September 30th, 2012 in which I asked them to take on this issue as well: SingStrong has big news: 1) SingStrongDC March 1-3, 2013 2) SingStrongChicago March 22-24, 2013 That's right! Dates are set for not one, but two SingStrong A cappella festivals! We are returning for our fifth year in DC and simultaneously expanding to the windy city! Freddie Feldman heads up the Chicago Team and both Teams will be working closely together to give our attendees two very different but equally fantastic a cappella festivals. Of course, both SingStrongs will continue to bring in the world's best a cappella performers, and both SingStrongs will donate their profits to charity. Please mark your calendars now; these events are going to be amazing! Evil Giant just has a ring to it. Plus, if you've ever tried to think up a catchy title only to be thwarted and disheartened by all the domain name squatters that came before you, then you'll appreciate that EvilGiant.com is a pretty sweet piece of Internet real estate. Does the name scream recording studio? Perhaps not. But it does seem to suggest that we do things a little differently here! MinkoffARTS is considering a name change to EvilGiant, and to that end, we've worked up a little test site. Check it out and see what you think! If it's popular enough, we'll change the name! Just added an new artsy photo to the blog entry on statistics and how they produce unexpected results.
