If you need me, I’m STILL over the moon from an amazing weekend with Face Vocal Band performing #acappella at Carnegie Hall with DCINY at #TotalVocal. It was, as the kids say "all the feels". And it truly checked so many boxes. Harmony. Soloing. “Electric Guitar”. Beatbox. Improvising. High falsetto. Meaty baritone. Dramatic Musical Theatre. Belted out Beatles. Totally exposed to tight quintet, to backed by an incredible choir. For me this was the entire checklist -except made so much better for being with such amazing people. It was a priceless gift to perform with such truly kind and gifted friends, including Beatboxers Supreme Mark Megibow and Chesney Snow master Musical Director and bari-counter-tenor-Jedi, Stephen Ross smooth as silk and low as hell, Forest Kelly and wittiest rock lead around, Ryan Driver. All brothers from other’s mothers. The singers from the choir were so wonderful! Thank you for your beautiful voices and for the Hawaiian welcome necklace and many words of encouragement for this very last minute addition to your multi-year journey to get here! Kudos to @Deke Sharon for leading the event with the most relaxed and positive energy. Shout out to Distinguished Concerts International New York - DCINY who worked so hard to make this event a reality through some daunting challenges, to Cody Qualls whose shoes are unfillably big and whose efforts to make this event occur were crucial and indefatigable, to Amanda Cornaglia who can run sound along with Face’s own sound man extraordinaire (and bicycling master!), but apparently does *NOT* have a doctorate (that’s her sister) and did need to set a few people straight (me) on just” getting a masters. Great to hear the fun, new The Music Man barbershop quartet (with some members from the a cappella musical, In Transit Broadway). Deke’s cousin is a fantastic tap dancer and got his own solo as well! Thanks also to Face manager/bachelorette Heather Van Dusen for all her support! Sending my love to my many friends and family who showed up for me last minute and cheered so loud I heard them on stage! Especially, my mom Irene Minkoff and friends Stacey Gotkin Cooper Michael Frederick Bua Christina Marie Grace McLean and more, and all their strikingly good looking dates! Thanks to EVERYONE for getting Double Vaxed, Boosted, and repeatedly TESTED -both by trained professionals and also by me whenever I felt nervous and busted out a BinaxNow. And for being cool about the one nerd with 3 masks on -except for pictures! Lol! And absolutely most of all, thanks to my brilliant, beautiful, musical wife Judy Fontana Minkoff and our kids for turning up the risk knob and letting me depart from “the bubble” for this wonderful adventure! Xoxoxoxo!!!!! #thankful #grateful #blessed #outofsuperlatives #nowIhavetotestseveraltimesadayforaweek
Wow! Teaching at my first VIRTUAL A cappella Festival! I'm so excited to work with students and directors again after this crazy COVID year, and doubly excited to do so in a CASA festival after being so focused on SingStrong, AAVF and others. I've taught at most of the CASA festivals (SoJam and LAAF) in the past -always fun!- but BOSS is a first for me!
What's the class? Competition: Tips, Tricks and The Profound Meaning of Creating Art It's a focus on defining what winning means to a group, and then a rocket fast pivot to exploring tangible, practical ways to achieve that success. As another thrill, my friends in POSTYR, the Danish super vocal group, are headlining the festival with a pre-recorded concert made just for BOSS. I can't wait to cheer them on and I hope you a cappella lovers and aca-curious will all consider joining in the fun at these bargain ticket prices! See you "there"! https://podcast.acaville.org/blog/2018/12/04/jonathan-minkoff/ Talkapella Interview of Jonathan Minkoff on Acaville Radio. Aca-business. Aca-philosophy. Sing-Off. Sing It On. SingStrong. And more!
